You've been hearing about South King Tool Library (SKTL) for months now. Maybe you've already attended a Repair Café or dropped off a tool donation. Now you're ready to become a member and start borrowing tools!
We're sorry to keep you waiting, but the beginning is in sight. We have a location, we have nonprofit status thanks to fiscal sponsorship from Seattle Tilth, and we have a steadily growing tool inventory. We even have some start-up funding from King County for our building set up and the first few months' salary for our head tool librarian.
All that's missing is the actual building. Or really, approval of the building. Here's the story:
A 'retired' portable office building has been donated to SKTL. It needs some serious TLC, but it's structurally sound and a great opportunity for us to build green by refurbishing instead of building from the ground up. Unfortunately, the age of this portable is making the process of getting the county's approval to move it to our site - and begin fixing it up - more complicated than expected.
What's all this mean?
We are working with our building donor, King County L&I and our legislators to determine the best way to forward. As soon as we have a plan, we'll update you on our building schedule. Once we're a go, we'll need volunteers to help with the refurbishing. If you're interested in helping us with the building, let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org.
