Robot Repaired! Rescued from Retirement

June 21, 2018

Pluggie the Robot may not be as well known as Smokey the Bear, but he is rock star to some here in South King County. When Jeanette of SKTL heard Pluggie was going to be retired because the cost to repair him was just too much for the South King Fire and Rescue team to budget, she made a call.

Gary Ichinaga has been a “fixer” at Repair Cafes throughout the county and has recently supported the South King Tool Library as “lead fixer” at the SKTL Repair Cafes this year. Not only is Gary a technical genius, but he is one of the kindest souls we’ve ever met. Along with his wife Gail Ichinaga, a teacher at Wildwood Elementary and his wonderful daughter Sara, this family has supported the community as fixers, sewers, and volunteers.

Gary was able to fix Pluggie in an afternoon, with no trouble whatsoever. The South King Fire and Rescue team was so grateful to have their teammate back, they offered to pay Gary for his amazing work, but Gary would not accept. Instead, the SKTL team received an email from Captain Jeff Bellinghausen, the SKFR Community Affairs Officer, letting us know that they would like to make a donation to SKTL!

We owe a big SKTL THANK YOU to Gary Ichinaga

and South King Fire and Rescue!

Come thank Gary in person at our next SKTL hosted Repair Cafe, July 25th!
