Executive Director
Amanda Miller
Growing up in Hampton Roads, Virginia, my family and I were always involved in volunteering - from church luncheons, to Thanksgiving servings, to Special Olympics events, and environmental cleanups. When my own family set down their roots in Federal Way, I decided to find a community project I could really support. I could not have found a better fit than the passionate group of volunteers that formed and run the South King Tool Library. I never thought that my passion could turn a journey into a career.
I have been the Executive Director of the South King Tool Library in Federal Way since 2019, and proud of our growth, expansion, and adaptability. We bring a great service and message to the region, and fulfill a need within our community. We opened our second branch in Auburn in October 2023, with an innovative approach to lending in the Outlet Mall for the region. We hold repair cafes, recycling events, classes, workshops, swaps, and other partnership events to increase our reach with the goals of waste reduction at the center.
I studied International Business, Chinese Archaeology, Japanese Architecture and Gardens at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia before moving to Seattle in 2008. I spent 11 years in the field of Warehousing, Distribution and Supply Chain Logistics.

How long have you lived in Washington State?
My family and I moved to Washington in 2006 after living in California for most of my childhood.
What kind of experience do you have using tools?
Most of my experience with tools comes from working at the tool library! Since joining a few years ago, I've gotten to use tools I wouldn't have known the name of previously. It's been a fun learning experience.
What is your favorite thing to do?
In my spare time, I play cozy video games and take way too many naps with my senior dogs. It's my favorite way to spend the weekend.

Annie Robertson
Annie is the Program Coordinator at South King Tool Library, where she brings her passion for reuse, sustainability, and community to life. With a background in thrift and a strong belief in the circular economy, she loves helping people make the most of what they already have. A lifelong animal lover, Annie fondly remembers her beloved cats who have passed and is currently enjoying the chaos and cuddles of life with her one-year-old Lab puppy, Digby.
Annie has been happily married to her husband, Rick, for 15 years, and they share life’s adventures with their 13-year-old, Griffin. When she’s not organizing programs or events, you’ll find her making things by hand—knitting, creatively mending clothes with embroidery, or out hiking with a good book waiting in her backpack.

What brought you to the Tool Library?
I was looking to be useful in my community. I had a bunch of extra time, and wanted a better way to spend it. So I became a volunteer here after walking through the desert for 40 years.
What's something you’ve learned working at the Tool Library?
In the entire concept itself. I never knew what a tool library was until I began working here. And now I’ve fallen in love with everything about it.
What is your favorite food?
Pizza, Gumbo, Jambalaya, Ribs with homemade mac and cheese, Chinese food and Japanese food lol
What is your favorite thing to do?
Play video games while eating pizza with a Mt. Dew and a lil something stronger on the side.

What brought you to the Tool Library?
I have lived in WA state for almost 20 years. I discovered the tool library when my husband decided to remodel our bathroom and kept buying new tools for every little job. Each thing had a very specific tool, and seriously, how many times will someone use their giant tile saw?
What's one thing you value in your community?
I value being a part of a community that I can contribute to and support those around me. I have learned that there are people with my values within my community, those who support waste reduction and sharing resources.
How can the Tool Library continue to grow?
The tool library can continue to grow with more support from the community, we could always use more volunteers who are able to help for even just a few hours a month.
What kind of experience do you have using tools?
I have been using tools that help maintain old boats, things from paint and varnish on wood ships to needle guns on steel ships. But the best ships are friendships ;)
What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is breakfast food, I love farm fresh eggs and my favorite thing to do is travel and work on the water.

Adrien Kimbrough
I grew up in Olathe, Kansas, graduated high school and college in Oregon, and now live in Federal Way, Washington. I used to teach high school science (physics, environmental science, chemistry, and biology), and now I work in local government. After teaching, I explored many avenues: online math and physics tutoring, online course production, and public outreach.
Fun fact: I have 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

Louis Maldonado
I was born in Chicago, spent some time in NY and PA through grammar
`bachelor’s degree. My wife and I made a one week visit to WA State to
use up some vacation time and I was so amazed at the natural beauty
and welcoming people. Two years later I was renting an apt in
Belltown, and exploring all of WA. I have enjoyed living here and now
consider this my home where I will continue to be. I am still a loyal
Chicago Bears fan, that will not change, even when the Bears are down.
What led me to joining the board of SKTL? I have always looked for
volunteering opportunities to help whatever community I move to. I
found SKTL in the Auburn Mall and started volunteering. I really like
their mission. I want to do more than just volunteer during business
hours. I want to contribute to the growth of the organization, and
it's community goals.
